What I got & Test Shots 1


Here are all the test shots I collected from my first phase of shooting. Obviously there will be bad photos, some misfits, the better ones may have some errors and I will most likely be needed to go out again and do a thorough photography session.

This is all of it. Some I just clicked randomly hence they would seem distant from the theme. That day a big marathon was taking place and the traffic and movement of people was quite crazy so at times I employed burst mode to get as many quick shots of the same scene in case 1 didn't work out. With all the entry restrictions and bordering of roads it was a bit difficult to get shots which I wanted nevertheless I am quite pleased with what i have so far.

What I want out of this Project


I want to create something simple yet heavily metaphorical in this project. There are a lot of constraints. I cannot show superheroes or super-villains so all I can do is imply their presence or assume their capabilities.I thought of the idea of dressing up someone to be a superhero. But what would he do? I cant show him causing collateral damage and I don't want to show him helping people as that would go against my theme. Plus the costumes available for superheroes are too cartoon-ish. It would ruin the aesthetic aspect of the overall essay.


I want something closer to Nature and mankind as we know it. I want to click both of them as they are to show that we are at our best and are there for each other. We are all superheroes is the notion I want to bring by the end of my project.


I want some specific photographs like people or authorities helping out the citizens. I want to show beautiful buildings to signify what we would lose due to collateral damage. I want to show innocence and peace.

Entry 22- Project Development 2

Locations


Initially I gave it a thought to go to London and take pictures over there and base my theme over there. But then I realised that London is too big and quite asymmetrical in the places that I have visited. Some roads can be really narrow yet they open up to a really wide lane and there are building and lanes everywhere. A proper concrete jungle.

Also it would be expensive to go even once to click photos not to mention return trips to get better photos or shots. Lastly the weather in london is too unpredictable.


Brighton it was. I then shortlisted some locations in Brighton, namely, The Level, Churchill Square, North Street where the Royal Brighton Theatre is, The Seafront, That big dome thing near St. Peter's Church with the garden and stuff.

Entry 21- Project Development 1

Oh, Hello.


Here begins everything that went on inside my mind and with the camera and eyes basically everything to do with my photographic essay.

Before I go out to shoot I have made a small plan as to what exactly I am going to do. here are the photos of my plan.


However there is as of now a problem. Which is that I have been able to plan 5 photographs but I cannot think of a 6th and concluding one or more than 6 if needed. I think it is a bit tricky to end something which is in some way about superheroes. Even the superhero movies are never ending. They have sequels every year.

I do hope my handwriting is legible enough. 

As is visible i have left space for the final point/ photograph as I cannot think of a conclusion yet.

Presentation 5: Ubiquitous photography and WEB 3.0 services
Penelope Umbrico, Erica Scourti, Joachim Schmid & The Culture of
Connectivity, Dijck.





I had no clue as to what the word ubiquitous meant before this presentation. So I googled it. It means when something is omnipresent i.e present everywhere.

I definitely liked this presentation because it is a topic which is currently in vogue or rather is important in this generation which is so technology oriented.

So what is this all about/
Lets see-

Flickr, currently the world’s largest photo sharing website.
Pictures become shared and collective perspectives, experiences and memories.
‘Collective Effort’ where users engage in relationships in communal experiences, resulting in ‘collective
memories’.
Hoskins’s argument that the idea of collective memory has become problematic in the age of digital
networks.

Until the 1990’s photo sharing was as different connective experience.



Penelope Umbrico

I found this to be the most interesting part of the presentation. Umbrico taking photos of sunsets around the world and creating this big photo.

Questions were raised over authenticity as these photographs were not hers.


I think she is not to be blamed. In today's world there are simply too many authors and even more works made by them and everything is openly available on the internet, so technically authors do not have any ownership.


What she did was highly creative and it definitely took a lot of effort to make it.
